What my kids did that helped me feel 20 again…and EXCITING news!

After a decade of gathering dust, my wife and I recently had our bikes serviced.

Why the sudden change?

Our kids are completely hooked on bike riding!

My son outgrew his 16” bike so we upgraded him to a 24” two-wheeler.

Seeing my kids, ages 9 and 7, get into a hobby that launched my own career in is exhilarating!

This newfound passion also inspired me to buy a mountain bike for myself, and I feel like I am in my 20s again. (Thanks to Aaron at Fritz’s Bicycle Shop!)

As a family we went riding on the local Rail Trail for two and a half hours yesterday. Every time we stopped to catch up with each other or while cruising down a hill, my son was yelling, “I love this bike so much and riding is the most fun thing I’ve ever done!

My heart is full.

At home, we’ve been watching videos on how to do bunny hops because what kid doesn’t want to jump their bike?!

He’s a little short and for his bigger bike, yet he’s been trying every day to get that front wheel off the ground, with a couple of successful hops.

This morning he asked if we can go somewhere with jumps that he can practice on. My response, “Why don’t we learn how to ride some bumpy, single-track trails in the woods first, before we start jumping on and off things?

This experience reminds me of how many people want to skip the basics in strength training and jump right into the cool exercises they see on social media.

Just like biking, you have to learn the fundamentals before you can progress safely, especially if you’re new to it.

Skill and technique are crucial, particularly as you start moving heavier weights.

It goes back to our message from last week that you can read here.

When you master the basics, you open yourself up to more opportunities for progress. This applies to whether you’re going from riding a bike to jumping a bike, or learning to kettlebell deadlift before swinging a kettlebell like a pro.

If you want to learn the fundamentals that will give you more freedom to enjoy your favorite activities and sports, we have some exciting news – we added two new times to our schedule!

Starting Monday September 15th, we’re offering our TEAM program at 6:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This is your opportunity to build mobility, strength, endurance, and confidence in a supportive gym environment. Our coaches will guide you and our community will keep you accountable.

Right now, Silas and I are heading out to ride some trails!
