The book “GOALS! How to Get Everything You Want – Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible” by Brian Tracey is the best book I’ve read on the subject of goal setting that guides you to writing out and discovering what you want to do with your life.
If you do the work within and at the end of each chapter, you’ll have created an action plan for your career and life.
It works.
And for some reason this book keeps coming up in conversations and recommendations so I decided to read it again (for the third time).
The book is so valuable that when recently asked to talk with students at a Worcester High School Career Day, I gave copies of it away to students interested in figuring out who they want to be and where they want to go.
Today, I am sharing a passage from the book the stands out amongst all the phenomenal information and insights provided.
The Keys to Courage and Confidence
“The way that you develop courage and confidence is with knowledge and skill. Most fear and doubt arises out of ignorance and feelings of inadequacy of some kind. The more you learn what you need to know to achieve your goals, the less fear you will feel on the one hand and the more courage and confidence you will feel on the other.
Think about learning to drive for the first time. You were probably extremely tense and nervous and made a lot of mistakes. You may have driven erratically and been a danger to yourself and others. But over time, as you mastered the knowledge and skills of driving, you became better and better and your confidence increased.
Today, you can quite comfortably get into your car and drive across the country with no fear or worry at all. You are so competent at driving that you can do it well without even thinking about it. The same principles apply to any skills you need to learn to achieve any goal you can set for yourself.”
How can this applies to your health and fitness goals?
Some people are reluctant to start training at a gym with coaches because they are embarrassed. Everyone starts at day one.
Yes, starting is nerve racking, but forecast where you’ll be three, six, or 12-months from now when you are more comfortable, gained confidence, and developed some exercise mastery.
You’ll be so much more closer to your goals than if you keep waiting for the right moment to start.
We’re here to help if you need this guidance.
