Today is the 130th running of the Boston Marathon, one of the most iconic races in the world.
One thing we know about people who are passionate about running is that they don’t just show up and run, or randomly decide to run a marathon 6-12 weeks out from the event. This is especially true if they want to feel confident and prepared, perform well, and enjoy the experience.
For most casual to serious marathon participants, marathon preparation starts at least 6 months out and builds gradually through a structured program. For many Boston Marathon participants, qualifying can take years of consistent work, with tweaks and twinges, personal wins and setbacks, and everything in between before they even reach the starting line.
Fitness goals work the same way.
More strength, better mobility, higher energy, fat-loss, greater confidence, or improved performance are not built quickly in a 6- or 12-week sprint.
Short-term challenges can be useful for creating momentum and getting started, but they’re rarely the complete solution.
Real progress comes from:
- Staying consistent when motivation is low
- Knowing when to push or back off intensity
- Knowing when and how to recover
- Showing up whether it’s a hard session or a check-the-box session
- Being patient with both the process and the outcome
Every session you complete is another mile marker on your journey toward your goal.
Every good habit that reinforces the positive health change you’re after is a step forward.
Every choice you make – training, recovery, nutrition, sleep – moves you closer to your personal finish line.
The marathoners running today didn’t get there overnight. Your progress won’t happen overnight either. Be disciplined, be consistent, manage your effort, and keep moving forward.
Last call: the Kettlebell Clean is a hardstyle kettlebell skill that can take years of consistent practice to feel truly competent. We’re hosting a free workshop on the Kettlebell Clean Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:30-11:30am. I you’d like to attend, simply reply to this email.
