A few weeks ago, I was talking with one of our members, Eamon, who mentioned how much easier it was to carry all of his grocery bags from the car into the house – in one trip.
We have many members who use their strength outside the gym. Dave hauls in big fish with friends miles out at sea. Jackie runs up Mount Washington (something she already did before she started working with us). Ryan responds to fires and emergencies throughout his city.
Other people can get caught up with tunnel vision: focusing only on seeing the weight of the barbell or kettlebell increase, or hitting a personal best in the gym.
Strength isn’t just what happens in the gym. Strength is what happens when life pushes you, and you push back.
Most people hear the word “strong” and think of a heavy barbell bending under load or someone lean and muscular.
Strength can show up in quieter ways.
Physical strength is what gives you the ability to pick up your kids and run around with them, give them piggyback rides, or hold them up for a big hug. My kids call this an “uppie-hug.”
Mental strength is showing up to the gym on a rainy day when it’d be easier to stay in bed, making a meal with what you have instead of ordering DoorDash, and trusting the process as you work towards your goals.
Emotional strength is recognizing progress over perfection, and asking for help when you need it.
All of these forms of strength tie together and grow through practice and consistency – the small yet meaningful daily decisions that move you forward on your journey.
Each rep, each meal, each decision to show up for yourself and the ones you love – that’s how strength becomes who you are.
So where do you see strength showing up in your daily life?
What does being strong look like for you this week?
Maybe it’s getting back into your routine.
Maybe it’s giving yourself some grace.
Maybe it’s just showing up.
If you’re ready to build strength that lasts – not just in the gym, but in every part of your life – our coaching and community can help you get there.
