Physical Wealth

In Sahil Bloom’s new book “The 5 Types of Wealth,” he makes a profound statement within the chapter titled “Physical Wealth.”

Your present self is the primary stakeholder in your world, but your future self is the direct heir of the long-term compounding of your actions in the present.

This is a beautiful analogy.

How will you enjoy your financial wealth when you’re lacking in your physical wealth?

Too many people wait too long to start taking care of themselves seriously. Just like they waited too long to plan and invest in their retirement.

Be proactive. The risk is so minimal, there’s really no excuse. It’s a guaranteed long-term positive gain.

To Sahil’s point, your consistent investment now will compound massively in your future.

The hard activities you perform in and out of the gym (or wherever you do hard things) prepares you for hardships guaranteed in the future.

You will need to overcome future physical challenges?

What challenges?

Pushing two kids in a double stroller for 2 or more miles.

Playing soccer with one child while helping the other ride their bike for the first time without training wheels.

The classic – grabbing ALL of your groceries from your car into your house in one trip, every week.

Running with your family in a 5K event.

Picking up your parent(s) when they fall down.

Hiking, skiing, fishing, playing competitive golf, jiu jitsu, adult league field hockey and soccer with people half your age.

Traveling and enjoying vacations to the fullest.

Falling down and getting back up.

No one wants to spend their last 25 years having more doctor’s appointments than adventures.

If you invest wisely into your physical wealth now, you are protecting your greatest assets – your body and your mind, to be thriving later in life.

This is what we are investing in. Our physical wealth is the foundation of our future.

To finish, this quote is written above our gym entrance this week: “We take care of the future best by taking care of the present now.” -Jon Kabat-Zinn
